PCOS

Personalised Support for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, is a hormonal condition that can affect your periods, skin, hair, fertility and overall wellbeing.

Symptoms can vary considerably, and some women may experience only a small number of symptoms while others may find that PCOS has a significant impact on their daily life.

At Nova Women’s Health Clinic in Clonmel, we provide personalised and compassionate care for women with diagnosed or suspected PCOS.

We take the time to listen to your concerns, review your symptoms and help you understand the most appropriate next steps for your health.

What Is Involved in PCOS Care?

PCOS care focuses on understanding your symptoms, reviewing your hormonal and reproductive health and developing a care plan suited to your individual needs. Your consultation may include:

  • A detailed review of your symptoms and medical history

  • Discussion of irregular, infrequent or absent periods

  • Support with acne, oily skin or excess facial and body hair

  • Assessment of hair thinning or hair loss

  • Discussion of fertility and difficulties becoming pregnant

  • A review of your menstrual cycle and ovulation

  • Advice on healthy lifestyle changes and long-term wellbeing

  • Recommendations for blood tests or an ultrasound scan

  • Discussion of treatment options for your individual symptoms

  • Referral for further assessment or specialist care where required

PCOS is usually assessed using a combination of your symptoms, medical history, blood tests and, in some cases, an ultrasound scan. Not everyone with PCOS will require an ultrasound, and having ovaries that appear polycystic does not necessarily mean that you have the condition.

Your PCOS Consultation

We understand that PCOS can affect much more than your menstrual cycle. It may influence your confidence, emotional wellbeing, fertility plans and long-term health.

During your consultation, you will have time to discuss your symptoms openly, ask questions and understand the options available to you. While there is no single cure for PCOS, its symptoms can often be effectively managed with the right advice, lifestyle support and treatment.
